The Gift of Go: Eligibility Criteria
The "No-Hurdle" Verification
Cancer takes so much. It takes time, energy, and far too often, it takes away the financial freedom to pursue a passion. The Gift of Go provides micro-gifts of up to £300 to help you start, continue, or master something that brings you joy.
We believe that if you’ve faced the storm of cancer, you’ve done enough "qualifying." Our criteria are designed to be as open as possible to ensure the Go gets to those who need it most.
1. Who Can Apply?
We support the entire "Blast Radius" of a cancer diagnosis. You are eligible if you are:
-
The Survivor: Anyone currently undergoing treatment or who has completed treatment at any point in their life.
-
The Caregiver: The primary support person (partner, parent, or friend) who has put their own passions on hold to care for a loved one.
-
The Child: Any child or young adult (under 18) whose family life has been significantly impacted by a parent or sibling’s diagnosis
2. What Does a "Gift" Look Like?
We don't fund medical bills, debt, or daily living expenses (rent/utilities). We fund The Spark. This includes, but is not limited to:
-
Gear & Equipment: A new bike, a set of paints, a camera lens, gardening tools, or running shoes.
-
Experiences & Learning: Enrollment in a photography workshop, a month of yoga classes, a cooking course, or a music lesson.
-
Memberships: A 3-month pass to a local gym, a national trust membership, or a local club fee.
-
We don't fund: Clinical treatments, private healthcare, transport to appointments, or cash gifts. We buy the 'thing' or 'experience' directly for you.
3. The "Resilience" Requirement
To keep things simple, we only ask for two things:
-
A Brief Story: Tell us about your journey and, more importantly, what "The Go" would mean for your mental or physical recovery.
-
The Visual Link: Tell us specifically what item or experience you need and how much it costs (typically up to a value of 300 for our micro-grants).
4. Location
For our inaugural London Marathon launch, we are currently prioritising applicants residing in the UK, but as our "Go" grows, we hope our reach will too.
Instead of asking for a stack of medical records, we use a "Letter of Light" approach:
“We trust our community. We simply ask for a brief note or email from a medical professional, social worker, or a community leader confirming you are part of the cancer-impacted community. No complex forms—just a simple nod from someone who knows your story.”
